"Know Your Place":- International Conference
Fri 4th Nov, 2005
The ideas of Migration, Race and Culture have been discussed since the dawn of time. Man has never been a static being and peoples are always on the move for a varied amount of reasons. Questions of Identity and belonging emerge as different communities settle in different parts of the globe. On the one hand, they wish to hold on to their culture which defines them, on the other hand they will undoubtably embrace aspects of the local culture into which they have moved. Sometimes this transition causes inner conflict and turmoil, sometimes it gives birth to a completely new sub-culture.
Leading world writers, academics and policymakers are due to converge in London for this event for 3 days in November. They are set to engage in an open and energetic debate on this matter. The aim of the conference is to heighten the awareness of creative writers in capturing the human dimension of population movements and cultural shifts.
I will be performing on Fri 4th Nov from 2:45pm afterwhich there will be a panel discussion on the subject "MULTICULTURALISM: A FAILED EXPERIMENT?"
