It was a good networking event, giving opportunity for different musicians to display their work to interested parties in the form of a promotional CD that was offered. I had a good time and saw a few old friends namely fellow performance poet/musician Asafo and my old Trinidadian friend Morgan who used to accompany my poems on the flute way back in our early Brixton days (when I only had two poems to my name!).
There was a Madingo percussionist from West Africa, who played a very interesting instrument called the "Balafon". It looks similar to the xylophone but has lots of additional features. I was told that it is a very ancient musical instrument which is the ancestor of our modern day piano. It certainly got the crowd moving!
The Music Village festivities are taking place all day throughout the weekend and will showcase musicians from many of London's diverse communities. For more information on other London Diaspora events goto my link page and click on the "Cultural Co-operation link"
