It was an extremely enlightening experience for me to do these workshops. I did them together with FLOetic Lara and we started to develop a good rappore with some of the students. The feedback from the children and the other teachers has been nothing but positive, and i feel that we have shown how Spoken Word can be used as an effective educational tool.

I would never be so bold as to state that we hold all the answers to the problems that youths face. But I do feel that by getting involved in such programs, it allows the students to see a different side to adults rather than just their parents and teachers. Many of them would discuss and open up to us on subjects that they may not feel comfortable talking to any other adults about.

One of the most interesting lessons occurred just after the bomb attacks in London. Rather than go with the standard planned format. We just sat around and talked about how we felt travelling on public transport. It was refreshing to hear all the different viewpoints coming from the students.

I look forward to starting up with a new group and introducing the same themes provided. There is also a possibility that we'll be carrying on the sessions with the old group (who will then be in Year 9) in order to expand on the work we did in the Summer term.
