Organising and putting together this album has been a totally new experience for me, I usually just write poems as they come to me with no real structure or order. But for the CD , I actually sat down and planned how I wanted it to be put together in terms of themes & music. I wanted to create a sonic landscape upon which to lay my poems down, so that each track takes the listener on a journey through rhyme.

The studio engineer on the project was Kiron (lounge_studios@hotmail.com). I was passed his number by someone who saw me perform and thought that I should compile a CD. He’s probably one of the most amicable guys that I’ve worked with, and was very receptive to my ideas. I composed all the tracks on the album & played all the keyboards, whilst Kiron played the guitar and laid down most of the percussion. It was a good working chemistry, and on many of the tracks, we were just jamming away!

Embarking on a poetry CD is always going to be a difficult project to accomplish. Spoken Word works best in a live environment, the mood of the crowd, the dimmed lights, that magical hush of the audience, these are all factors which add to the atmosphere and allows beautiful images to be created using words. But for an album, it is the music alone which has the job of creating that same atmosphere to enable the words to connect. But peoples’ musical tastes differ, so the mood that you hope to create will be perceived differently, pending on how they react to the music you provide.

Though I was effectively raised on Hip Hop, being a DJ, I have been influenced by several different musical styles. I’ve tried to incorporate this diversity on the various tracks. This album is really for the headphones, you need to sit back and relax and just listen to the words. My aim isn’t necessarily to make people dance or hum along to the chorus…….it’s all about the words that are spoken.
